This is the story of Nitin Kumar, a revolutionary newbie who has made a successful attempt in transforming the automobile repair process in the country. His venture V-DOC is an online platform for the customer to directly connect to local nearby mechanic and mechanics to the customer in just one click.
It all started because of two reasons first his urge to be a job provider rather than being a job seeker and second improving the experience of hiring a skilled mechanic in one’s own locality and that too online.
How he did it?
Nitin Kumar completed his graduation in March 2019 and got placement from college but unlike other freshers, he was not satisfied with his job and he always thinks about business. Leaving the job months after joining and working on a new idea was one of the boldest decisions of his life. He knew he was giving up all his savings but he was very happy and excited for his journey.
He saw many people who were stuck at the roadside when their vehicles suddenly stopped working and they don’t have an option that helps them to reach nearby mechanics.
So he created an online platform (web / app-based) which directly connect local mechanic to customer. But the tough job was how the mechanic will get connected to the website?? And which mechanic would be chosen by the customer?
He then, opened the window of B2B (Mechanics as partners of the company and their commissions plus benefiting with their registration) With B2C business (End customers who will use any service). It was an out-of-the-box solution.
Surprisingly, the mechanic all over the cities enrolled themselves. Mechanics got themselves registered for keeping up with the technology and never run out of their work. Whether they had shops or freelancers, they were registered and marked as per their skills, expertise, experience, hours of availability, and approachability.
Customer convenience and comfort have always been a top priority for Nitin Kumar. The customer can now just directly hire a mechanic with few taps, irrespective of time or place, and that too without getting out of his car
Customers can simply connect to the nearby mechanics by searching on the portal at the lowest cost ever. In this platform people can directly call the mechanics at any spot, choosing according to the mechanic’s skills, expertise, experience, and availability, take prior appointments, know the quotation and actual problem of the vehicle.
Also, benefiting the mechanics by letting the mechanic also checking locations and accepting the hiring request, and providing employment for freelancer mechanics. Two shots with one stone.
Nitin Kumar’s perseverance paid off and the company got incorporated on 9 Oct 2019 as VDOCAUTOMOTIVE PVT LTD.
How he was earning without a penny of funding?
But at the end of the day, it is not about just idea and hard work, it is about monetizing the channel and taking the business out of it.
Industry data pegs the car servicing market to be worth Rs20,000 crore and by the end of 2020, it is expected to reach Rs33,000-34,000 crore.
In terms of service providers, the automotive repair and maintenance services market is segmented as an automotive dealership, locally owned repair shops, general franchise repairs, and others. The automotive dealership segment is estimated to drive the growth of the market. The presence of various locally owned repair shops is also growing at a significant rate due to the increase in the inclination of consumers toward locally-owned shops.
With increasing competition with the companies like CAR expert and mericar.com. What VDOC has to offer is the lowest cost and frequent availability of mechanics. VDOCAUTOMOTIVE Private Limited is aiming to cover 1% capital of the Automotive repair market in India by the end of 2026.
