Falguni Nayar, the originator of Nykaa one of India’s greatest online fashion and lifestyle portals. The brand is now the epitome of wellness and beauty products. By empowering customer choices and enabling the brands to reach the breadth and the depth of the nation. Nykaa has emerged as India’s most momentous beauty retailer playing a crucial role in evolving the beauty market in India. Falguni has built an entire empire to herself, with a portfolio of 1500+ brands, including its own private label, available online and across 68 stores in India. Today she heads a team of over 1600 Nykaa-sites, whose revenue exceeded 1200 crores INR in FY19, and is on track to exceed 200 crores on FY20. The brand has ventured into new verticals like Nykaa Fashion- a fashion first, style-led curated fashion platform.

Falguni Nayar has now become a singular identity in the market. The brand’s association with its founder is deeply engraved everywhere and is a result of the passion she had for her dream. The name literally translates to Nayika which means actress of one’s life, is certainly the perfect name to beautify and inspire at the same time. Kudos to the brand and to the woman who never stops working and exceeds her own expectations. Drawing inspiration from entrepreneurs like Ronnie Screwwala of UTV and Ajay Bijli of PVR Cinemas, she headquartered her company in Mumbai where she was born and brought up. Seeing her father run small bearing business, she knew she had it in her to become an entrepreneur. Stock market and trade were common discussions in her house during the growing years. “ Plus I’m a Gujarati,” she said in an interview. While the idea and the dream lived inside her, Nykaa happened when Falguni Nayar has one some spare time on her hands, after her children left for their studies in the US. With a deadline of 50 (which was self-imposed), the one woman army leaped faith and quit her job at Kotak, where everything was going right. She loves to make up but has no time to add some on herself anymore. She thinks India needs an online platform for makeup and wellness. Bridging the gap and changing the women’s shop, she has successfully curated more than 850 brands and 35,000 products. The company has its stores in 17 states across the country. There are two store formats- Nykaa Luxe and Nykaa on-trend. Luxe has Indian and international brands and on trends stores in-house beauty products. Nykaa being the youngest yet super successful online beauty company has a target audience in the age group of 22-35 and has also launched private labeled products in the bath and body care category in 2016. Working in an inventory-based model, Nykaa has warehouses in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and offers all leading brands including Kaya Skin Clinic, Lakmè, L’Orèal Paris, and more. The brand is further opening its s luxury stores (Nykaa luxury) in premium destinations. The brand has also become a front liner in bringing international luxury brands to India, giving India all-encompassing products and services to choose from.

I’m an adventurer” she says. “ I was never a good swimmer but I would always be the first to jump in. The thought that what if I break my leg? Never occurs to me” are her words. She’s definitely an inspiration to the present and future as well, with not letting her age define her.
