“Writing is an art that doesn’t require any barriers”
During the outbreak of coronavirus, when the economy of many countries
dropped leading to the shutting down of businesses; the publishing industry
experienced a surge. Everyone was forced to stay indoors with the availability of
more free time which increased the demand for entertainment and allowed
people to reconnect and reflect on themselves. This led to an increase in the
demand for books and the volume of submissions received by the publishing
houses in addition to the requirement for more writing workshops.
In the UK, sales of fiction increased by a third. “Self-isolation around the world
has seen a boom in reading” – says Mr. Setzer, President of the International
Publishers Association “Books and reading are the ideal way of escaping our four
walls, but also to understand what is happening around us, how to overcome this
and how to make our lives better in the future.”
Mr.Kartik K realized the elevation in writing submissions and saw how
traditional publishers were being shut down due to the pandemic. He joined the
puzzle and came up with the solution of starting his own online independent
publishing house named “Flaming Pens Publication”.
The Founder and CEO of Flaming Pens Publishing Mr. Kartik K is also the
working CEO of the Wordsmith foundation and Hustler’s Awards India.
The Flaming Pens Publication is a joint venture with Wordsmith Foundation
NGO and its journey started in the year 2020 just like any other business. It
started out small as a publishing unit and an event manager, however, due to the
love it received from the community, it is now a fully independent publishing
house and imprint provider with more than 250 published titles and a
recognized institute under MSME.
Flaming Pens Publication also conducts competitions and has a blog where
various writers from across the globe display their artistic side. In the very
beginning, a poetry/quote competition was held and the first book published
under the name of Flaming Pens Publication – “The Omnium Gatherum”
comprised of the work done by poets who participated in this competition.
The course of action that follows in order to get a book published involves an
intensive discussion among the team members on whether the book has an
audience. There are numerous genres of books out there. As a result of many
genres and types of books, each writing submission the publishing house
receives goes through a procedure of researching if there exists a demand for
that book.
When a draft has achieved the approval of the team it goes through editing,
formatting, proofreading, and then cover designing.
Mr. Kartik K the founder and CEO of Flaming Pens also understands how
difficult it can be for a student to manage expenses and due to the shortage of
funds many students are unable to pursue their dream of writing; therefore he
charges only a minimum amount of rupees 1500 from students. This also
satisfies the statistics which say that 83% of students are more likely to use
services if they get a student discount.
In a nutshell, the main motive behind The Flaming Pens Publication is to provide
a platform to writers where they can display their flare of artistic and realistic
writing. It aims to bring out the best in our fellow writers and display hidden
talent.
